Every year when December rolls around, I start fantasizing about all the wonderful, crafty, clever, cute, and memorable things I will do for Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Then, inevitably, I end up disappointed and tired after a night without sleep because I scrambled to fit in as many things as I could in a last ditch effort to create an event worthy of Pinterest. Looking for some simple but cute cookies for the holidays that don’t require a lot of effort? Well, once again, inspired by my husband’s aversion to royal icing, I give you these icing-free Christmas trees. Continue reading
Believe it or not, my husband doesn’t like sweets. If I ever find a way to make cookies taste like tabasco sauce, I’m sure he’ll eat them all before they even get the chance to cool but for now I’m settling for making him happy with a special set of his favorite no-so-sweet butter cookies. Sometimes great things come from hard work. Other times, they are born from pure laziness. That’s how this ocean got it’s character. Continue reading
Making this cityscape cake was so much fun for me for a few reasons. First, I got to work with modeling chocolate for the first time. Wow was that fun. Second, I’m from Chicago so it was cool to play around with the idea of what would really make this cake scream Chicago (nailed it!). Continue reading
When I started making this cake I thought the logo wouldn’t be enough. I thought it would be boring or that it would look like I didn’t try hard enough. [Baker’s guilt is almost as bad as the Catholic kind.] Boy was I wrong. Continue reading
Character cookies make great gifts. People can’t seem to get enough of them. It’s even nicer when you can take character cookies and personalize them for the person receiving them. That’s how these cookies were “born” and this is how you can give your Minions a medical degree. Continue reading
I absolutely love theme parties. So when my sister asked me to help plan a surprise party for our sister-in-law, I volunteered to make a cake, cookies, and take care of the decorations. My sister-in-law is one of the most elegant people I know so I had to make something worthy of her personality. Continue reading
Since I’m often low on time, I get really excited whenever I can make cookies that wow without spending an entire day working on them. Before you ask, no I’m not a huge Chanel fan. It’s just a coincidence that their simple and elegant designs work well on cookies and cakes and I’ve been asked to make them a few times. Continue reading
These days it feels like everywhere I look there is something Monster’s Inc. related going on. Then my friend Monica asked me to make cookies for her nephew’s birthday and I had to think up an idea for some simple cookies I could make quickly. So here goes, my very first tutorial. Continue reading
I took the weekend off from decorating to take some time to update my Facebook page and this website. I still have a long way to go but I think I’m off to a good start for someone who has never built a website like this before. I hope you all enjoy what I’ve managed to get up and running so far. There’s plenty more to come.
Enjoy the short holiday week!
I’ll try to make my posts as regular as possible but I’m sure that the demands of my full time job and various other commitments will often get in the way.
